Twillingate, Newfoundland
July 7, 2017 Friday
This morning we are still trying to get
our phones to work. We decided to go
back to McDonald’s and use their internet to try and download a program which
will enable us to do wi-fi calling. Jim
had already gotten his to work but my phone was being stubborn. This morning I finally had success! The park we are camped in does not have strong
wi-fi and that is our problem. I think I
will run down the list of calamities which we’ve been faced with on this trip
on the last day of the blog. Maybe by
then I will have forgotten all about them and have only good news to share.
Once back at camp we pack everything up
and started back on the road to Twillingate.
It is at the very top of this peninsula…actually it is on an island just
off the tip of this peninsula. Icebergs
and the big draw there and we’re hoping to see some and maybe some whales too.
The trip was fine…same old potholes all
along the way. Beautiful scenery and a
beautiful day for a drive. We arrived at
the campground with no problems and checked in.
We have a site right near the office.
The lady in the office was very helpful and gave me a map of the area
and told me about everything around. I
did understand most of it but they have a little accent up here. There were two ladies in a motorhome who came
in just after us. I met one in the
office. She noticed our Louisiana plates
and asked where we were from. She said
she new about Covington as her friends brother lives in Mandeville!! Small world.
Hope I can speak to her after we all get set up for the day.
Jim and I took off in the car to make
use of the rest of the sunny day. We set
out for Long Point Lighthouse which is just up the road a little further. The wind is a gale today. Even though it is not too cold I wore a ski
cap to keep my hair on my head. We took
some photos of the very distant icebergs around and walked around some of the
trails. Absolutely beautiful!
Left the lighthouse and drove down
several cove roads. Stopped at one near
a place called French Beach. Parked
right behind a car with Texas plates. Took
some photos and decided to walk to the beach.
The trail looked like it is used by goats or sheep but we managed just
fine. The beach is covered by large
smooth rocks. Not sure I could manage
with bare feet. There is a good size iceberg
just off the beach. Since we were beaten
down by the gale-force winds we decided it was time to head back to the car.
By now we are starving…no lunch since we
were traveling and setting up camp. We
chose R & J Restaurant for early dinner.
Let’s just say we will not be back.
The service was good but the food was not.
Drove around the area a little more
before getting back to the motorhome.
Later that evening we drove down to the cove (we could have walked but
it was cold and windy). Beautiful sunset
and I wanted to photograph. We could
also see a very large iceberg on the horizon.
Hope the wind blows it over here for tomorrow.
