St. Anthony's, Newfoundland
July
13, 2017 Thursday
Woke up and went to the gas station to
check if we could use their Wi-Fi. I
managed to get through to the Labrador Marine website on my phone and tried to
book our trip to Labrador. Had to call
the office to complete but we have reservations on the ferry on Sunday the 16th
at 10:30 am with a return later that day at 6 pm. Better than nothing.
We drove all the way to St. Anthony’s. The drive way gorgeous...mountains on the right and the sea on the left. We drove through several little fishing villages. The roads were roly poly part of the way. It was like being on a children's roller coaster.
After arriving at the campground we unhooked the car and drove through the park to find a spot perfect for us. There was a huge open section which was reserved for a caravan coming in the next day. The office said we could camp there so we picked a site in the very back corner.
We went in to town and stopped at the visitor’s
center. We made a reservation for the Iceberg Tour
tomorrow. We saw Ginny and Steven…they will
be on tour with us tomorrow at 1 pm.
When leaving the center we ran into Francoise and Robert…the couple we
met yesterday on the Western Brook Pond Tour.
Drove up to the lighthouse to look for
icebergs. There were several out in the
water. One was fairly close in French
Bay. Took some pictures. Saw Ginny and Steven and talked to them for
awhile. Jim and I went nearby to The
Lightkeeper's Cafe for dinner. I had the
most delicious pan fried halibut with glazed carrots and mashed potatoes. Jim had a seafood linguine. While we were sitting there eating and
looking out the window the closest iceberg just toppled over! Wish I had a video running. So cool.
Drove back into town and went by the grocery
for bananas. Still hoping to find
strawberries but not yet. Headed back to
the RV park. Jim wants to wash our
filthy car and clean the motorhome windshield.
Tomorrow the RV park will be taking in 17 rigs in a RV caravan. They will be parked in the section we are
in. Right now we are in this section
alone.
