Peggy's Cove

JUNE 22, 2017  THURSDAY

Brilliant morning!  Sun is bright and skies are clear!!  Looks like it will be a great day.

We left the motorhome after breakfast and took Trunk Road 3 (scenic route) from Chester to Peggy’s Cove.  Drove through some picturesque fishing towns on the way.  One of the towns on the way is Hubbards, home of the Shore Club, and lobster suppers.  That I will save to the end of the day.

The area around Peggy’s Cove is very rocky and I mean big rocks right up to the water.  There is also a lighthouse there.  We can’t go inside but we took photos and walked around the rock formations left by glaciers.  We parked at the Visitor’s Center and walked about 10 minutes up the road to the lighthouse.  I was amazed that it was not as windy as I expected it to be.  Very nice place to visit.  Lots of people there but no problems with parking etc.

For lunch we ate at the Sou’western.  A restaurant and gift shop right beside the lighthouse rocks.  We had something light as we are planning a big dinner.  More on that later.

We got back on our way and stopped just up the road to see the Swiss Air 111 Memorial to all those who died in the crash on September 2, 1998.  The airliner crashed just off the coast with 229 passengers and crew…all perished.  Those people from the local communities assisted in recovery efforts.

We retraced our drive taking in all the beauty of the day and the scenery.  We took some side roads to check out the area and saw some magnificent homes sitting just above the water.  Sailboats were dotted in every cove and even saw one huge yacht docked at one of the homes.  We even passed by some beach areas where there were people in the water and sunning on the sand.  I think that would be a little too cold for me.

After another drive around one of the many peninsulas we finally made it to the Shore Club.  It was built in 1946 as a dance hall.  It still has music and dancing for special occasions but mostly it serves LOBSTER!!  Their lobster suppers serve all the salad and all the mussels you can eat along with lobster.  There are other things on the menu but WHY?  We want lobster!!  And we got it…Jim and I each had a two-pound lobster!  Yummy!  We finished our meal with dessert…mine was blueberry shortcake and Jim had brownie topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce.

On the way back to the motorhome we stopped by a local market and bought some groceries.  Tomorrow we leave here for Halifax.
