Lunenburg
JUNE 21, 2017 WEDNESDAY
Woke up to less fog but still overcast
skies. Temperature was about 58
degrees. Hoping it clears up later.
Set out and took the scenic route (Trunk
Road 3) to Lunenburg. Passed through
many small villages. Mahone Bay was the
most spectacular. It is famous for the
three churches which you can see from across the bay.
Three churches in Mahone Bay |
The road actually travels right along the bay
taking you through the town center. Lots
of shops so attracts many visitors. We
continued on to Lunenburg.
The road took us along the bay with
beautiful homes all around. Lots of
flowers and the rhododendron are brilliant.
Lunenburg has houses right on the road in the town. Roads right on the marina are full of
restaurants and shops. We did visit the
Visitor’s Center which is right at the campground in town. You need to take a backroad to get to the
campground but it would be a great location to check out Lunenburg. Weather has turned and it is warmer, less
windy and sunny. Thank you!!
The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is
right on the dock. We were hoping to see
the Bluenose II but it was gone to Boston for the tall ship parade. We did tour the museum building and the two
ships which are included in the price of admission. Parked in all day parking for $4
Canadian. We managed to fit in lunch at
The Grand Banker just across the street from the dock. We had the Lunenburger, beef with lobster on
a delicious bun which was topped off with a bacon wrapped scallop on a
toothpick. Washed everything down with a
couple of craft beers.
After lunch we did some walking through
town. Saw a couple of original churches
and visited The Boscowen Inn which is period decorated in the common
rooms.
Must have been someone’s home at
one time. Beautiful! Everyone we meet is very nice. Had an ice cream cone at the end of the day
and met a couple from Wales who were on a bus tour.
We left town and headed further down the
peninsula to the Blue Rocks. Didn’t find
a place to park but the road was right on the bay with blue boulders along the
coastline and even out in the water. Gorgeous
homes looking out over the water. Before
we got back to the motorhome we stopped at The Saltbox brewery in Mahone Bay
for happy hour. Met a couple from
Philadelphia who are spending the weekend in a house across the street. While outside enjoying the beer, the sun and
the company a young man stopped and asked if we were the couple with Louisiana
license plates. He had just spent time
at ULL doing his masters. He is a French
interpreter. One of the best parts of
traveling is meeting people from all over.
Tomorrow we plan to go to Peggy’s
Cove.
