First day to blog about this trip
We left home on June 7 and headed to
Atlanta to visit our son, his wife and their beautiful new baby daughter, our
FIRST grandchild! This was the first
time to see her since her birth in March.
She’s grown so much!! She shared
lots of smiles with me…maybe she thinks Grandma looks funny!! Anyway, we had a great time with her and also
spent some time with Leah’s family too.
Always fun and festive being with them.
The time came to say goodbye for a while
and we left Stone Mountain Campground on June 13 taking I-85 north connecting
with I-77 in Charlotte, NC. We made it
as far as Elkin, NC, after driving through pouring rain.
Heavy winds sent the dirt flying through some construction sites along the highway. Trucks and cars were pulling off the road and it was difficult to see very far ahead. Jim kept going at a safe speed and finally came out of the storms. We spent the night at Walmart (did some shopping, of course). Nice and cool sleeping. Beautiful morning to head north after breakfast.

Got an early start and took I-77 north
to connect with I-81. Drive was
beautiful and I was able to see the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance. The road at times had elevated grades and all
the trucks were going slow in the right lane.
We could see heavy rain around the area but managed to skirt around
them. We stopped at the Flying J in
Winchester, VA, to refuel. It was too early
in the day to stop for the night but we couldn’t find a good place to camp
further up the road so we found the Walmart near Falling Waters, WV, as
planned. We structured this early part
of the trip to drive around 300 miles per day.
We left so early this morning and traveling went so well we got here
about 2 pm. We’ll have a good restful
night. It also gives me the chance to
sit here and begin this trip blog.
If you keep following this blog I hope
you enjoy our trip. Keep us in your
prayers as we seek to make this dream trip come true.
